Bank of America

Bank of America
Neighborhood: Downtown
Update - 9/15/2011
As of October 17, 2011, Bank of America will be charging new monthly "maintenance fees" for different types of accounts (for example, $14 monthly for a regular checking account!)

A few days ago B of A sent me a small-print 60-page booklet explaining the "Changes to the Agreements for Your [My] Personal Accounts," all in the name of "greater access, increased control, and more efficient ways to do your banking."

Totally believable.

And don't let me started again: since I wrote the above update, B of A has announced it will charge a $5 monthly debit card fee as well.

Bottom line: I'm changing banks, now matter how convenient their having ATM machines everywhere is.

Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf (WikiLeaks)? Bank of America is.

B of A joins others [Mastercard, Visa, Paypal] in refusing WikiLeaks payments.

Not only is the United States government going after Assange,--one man--, mega-bank B of A has to hurl a stone.

Yes, I do realize that we have to kill the messenger if the message he brings is unpalatable.

Now why would B of A do this?

Answer: Reuters reports that Bank of America shares declined by 3 percent on Tuesday, as investors heard that the largest U.S. bank by assets may be the focus of the next trove of documents to be released by WikiLeaks.

Bank of America chooses to mix business with politics. And cowardly intimidation.

It screws you as a banking customer, now it sides with the government to block the release of information that would be politically embarrassing. Like the Secretary of State ordering U.S. diplomats to wiretap and obtain fingerprints, credit card numbers, biometric data, and even DNA of foreign diplomats and UN officials.

So much for love of freedom. It's all in the abstract, as is their concern for their non-corporate banking customers like you or me.

Just another (big) reason to dislike Bank of America.
