is not homosexuality, it is for hypocrisy.
Nor am I black.
So why do I get lumped together in the category of "people of color"," especially considering the huge cultural differences between African-Americans and people of my race?
African-Americans do not represent people of color. And I am frankly tired of hearing of African-Americans all the time, from the music played in stores to Hollywood movies (such as "The Butler" or "The Help," basically retreads of "To Kill a Mockingbird" of 1962) to the non-stop media coverage of complaints of racism--real, projected, or imagined--against blacks...Hispanics and Asian-Americans probably experience, on the whole, more discrimination but they just talk about it far less.
But that would be hard to fathom the complexity of race relations in this country if you are a reader of a newspaper such as The Stranger.
Speaking of which, why hasn't The Stranger ever hired an Asian- or Hispanic-American? For a newspaper which preaches the sins of racism, this is pretty hypocritical.
Well, maybe it is intentional, for the very same reasons The Stranger casually refers to Chinese-Americans such as Gary Locke as "Chinks."
Even a conservative newspaper like The Seattle Times makes at least an attempt to provide occasionally a different perspective from that of its editorial board.
Move to majority-African-American cities such as Philadelphia, New Orleans, D.C., Atlanta, etc. and tell me how well non-blacks are treated there.
People of color" is a racially divisive term that pits one group (Caucasians) against another (non-Caucasians).
Is there a term for all peoples who are not black (most Hispanics, Caucasians, Asians, Native Americans, many Muslims)?
